Shoe Stretching – Bella Vita Athena

Dear Shoe Lady,
I have just received my Bella Vita Athena leather shoe size 6.5. The width is good but they have peep hole toe which is just a little long. Will they stretch enough so my toe can slip down a little or should i return them and exchange for a size 6. I LOVE the look!

Dear Lynette,
The Bella Vita Athena Style is a SEXY shoe – what a great choice! Leather in general always stretches a little bit, but all Bella Vita shoes are designed for comfort and are made of excellent quality materials. I’m afraid that if you did indeed go down a size you might find your toes are pinched!

For a bold look try the Bella Vita Athena Multi Snake Leather. Sexy!

Occupational Cape Clogs

Dear Shoe Lady,
Love the thought of wearing clogs all day while at work. However, Lollipops belong in mouth not on my feet. Any chance of getting Cape Clogs in different colors. How about good old basic black?

Thank you for supplying a large-sized variety of stylish shoes.

Happy Feet

Dearest Happy Feet,
Depending on your occupation you might fall in love with our – Quark Quarky Clogs! They come in a variety of colors, including green, brown, blue, and white for a reasonable price.

Patent Leather after Labor Day?

Dear Shoe Lady,
Can patent leather be worn after labor day? Or would a flat leather alligator/snake pattered leather be more versatile?

Dear Martha,
Years ago, patent leather was a spring and summer staple, but nowadays, it’s uber-trendy to wear in the fall and winter. One good rule of thumb is the style/color should be appropriate to the season. Dark colors like purple, navy, black, maroon and grey are fashionable this winter.

Comfortable shoe with a 2.5 inch heel suitable for work or paired with a dark jean.

Or try a crinkled patent leather with a pop of color to down play the shine and dress up any outfit.

Personally I love to mix patterns and materials when it comes to patent leather. Aerosole offers a base leather shoe with a quilted patent leather toe pattern. One of my personal favorites. Plus the flat can take you from day to night.

I hope this clears up the myth that patent leather is only good for spring or summer!

A Chic Woman’s Guide to Shoes

A Chic Woman's Guide to Shoes

A Chic Woman's Guide to Shoes

Your choice in women’s shoes can speak volumes. Whether you’re going to a formal gala or hitting the gym, the right pair of shoes can simultaneously pull together an otherwise blah-outfit, while creating a chic, classy appearance. Here’s a list that will give you tips on expressing your personal style- through your footwear!

Dare to Wear Brights
A dramatic hue can liven up a look instantly, and that includes outfits in colors other than denim and black! Try wearing vibrant shoes with khaki, pastels, and white. A scarlet red dress, however, warrants neutral footwear.

Choose One Attention Getter
A good rule of thumb is to keep your shoes toned down if you’re wearing a flamboyant gown, but if your look is more modest, an eye-catching shoe (something like this pair would certainly qualify!) adds excitement.

Montaege Talani Black w. Crystals at DesignerShoes.com

Talani by Montaege is a High Heel Dressy Sandal

Dress for the Occasion
Flats can be too casual for a cocktail party, while peep-toe sandals may be too risqué for a more conservative gala. Keep your sneakers relegated to gym clothes or casual jeans. When in doubt, you can’ go wrong with a classic black pump like this pair.

Naturalizer Lennox Black Shiny at DesignerShoes.com

Going Outdoors? Say No to Stilettos
Not only will you ruin your shoes, but it will be decidedly ungraceful to try and walk when your heels keep sinking into the ground. Flats will work with a more casual look, but if you want height, wedges are ideal.

Leave an Impression
While a bow-emblazoned kitten heel veers more toward cute, a spindly stiletto sandal is all about looking sexy. Decide what look you want to capture, and work it.

There is a Time and Place for Sultry Stilettos
Nighttime is the best time for eye-catching shoes. If you still want to rock a killer look throughout the day, choose a closed or peep-toe pump.

Couple Sky-High Shoes with Tame Hemlines
When going for major air, keep your hemlines at an inch above the knee. But when wearing a short skirt or dress, wear a lower heel or flat — it will balance you out and keep you from showing altogether too much leg.

Pair Flats with Neatly Hemmed Clothes
If your clothing isn’t tailored, you’ll run the risk of looking unkempt. A pant leg should fall at or above the ankle, while skirts or dresses should halt above the knee.

Look Pretty and Poised
Shoes are all about balance- and I’m not talking about the kind you need to walk! Thicker-heeled shoes create frightfully layered look, while more delicate heels could look off balance. The same is true vice-versa. Pair a dainty outfit with a thinly-strapped sandal for a cute match!

Polish Your Look with Boots
Boots can give you a rugged country look, an equestrian vibe, or a trendy, urban charm; they allow you to get wear out of your lighter dresses and skirts when it’s cold. Try picking a pair that’s fitted around your leg but not so tight that your skin bulges out from the top. There shouldn’t be more than a half inch of space between your leg and your boot.

Durable Winter Shoes

Dear Shoe Lady, I go to school in Rochester and there is a lot of snow. Because of that, there is salt everywhere during the winter. What shoes will best endure the salt while looking good to match every outfit? I have UGGs but I’m afraid the salt will eat them, even though it is lambskin. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hi Heidi,
Thank you for your inquiry, and that is an important shoe concern. One of the keys to shoe longevity is periodically cleaning them. If you know that your shoes will become exposed to harsher elements like salt, a quick wipe with a vinegar and warm water solution should help. This is only useful for standard smooth leather shoes or synthetic uppers. If suede protection is your aim, then you will want to pre-treat it with weatherproofing spray. It can be found in most sports stores or even pharmacies.
