The Shoe Lady Bio

Barbara Thornton brings over 15 years in the business of matching hard to find size fashion shoes with the women who want them, working closely with nationally known manufacturers, international shoe factories and putting shoes on the feet of thousands of women who couldn’t find their sizes in regular shoe stores.  She founded DesignerShoes.com in 1997, one of the first companies in the world to sell footwear on line.  She now serves as “The Shoe Lady” on the blog, AskTheShoeLady.com.  

In addition to her hands on experience fitting shoes on women’s feet, starting as a shoe salesperson in an Enzo Angiolini mall store for $6 per hour,  and continuing to her DesignerShoes.com store on Boston’s fashionable Newbury Street, she has earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and an MCP from Yale School of Art and Architecture.  Her most important qualifications for this “The Shoe Lady” position:  1) she wears a size 11.5M shoe,  2) her favorite daughter has needed a size 11.5M shoe from the age of 13.
